Apply Yourself (Scrawl S12 E01)

Hello Scrawl Nation!

We’re back for the final season of the 2014-2015 academic calendar, and we’ve started off with a bang! Today we welcomed UCWbL head writing tutor Cynthia Medrano onto the show to talk about the UCWbL’s annual hiring process!

L to R: Scrawl hosts Mariah Woelfel and Rima Mandwee, UCWbLer Cynthia Medrano, and Scrawl host Brandon Haskey

The show started with Word of the Day! Mariah provided us with an excellent word: adoxography. Check out the clip below for the definition!

Next we talked with Cynthia about the hiring process and, specifically, about the application materials. Cynthia gave some great advice about cover letters, the Writing, Rhetoric, & Discourse class you are required to take upon being hired, and many other valuable things. Check out this clip for a ton of great info for those looking to apply to this job or any job!

We also played America’s Favorite Game, Dear Cynthia, an advice column style game where we asked Cynthia about some of the burning questions you might have about weaknesses in your employment history and how those weaknesses might impact your UCWbL application.
