First Year Program’s Writing Showcase

The First Year Program’s Writing Showcase is just around the corner! In its 6th year, this year’s Showcase is shaping up to be the most impressive one yet. Thirty-five First Year Students will show off the fruits of their labor by re-envisioning their writing projects as poster presentations on Wednesday, May 18, at Cortelyou Commons from 6 to 8 pm.

In order to prepare for the evening, first year writers will be dropping into the Writing Centers to pick up their poster boards and receive some tips about how to approach this unique challenge. If you are a tutor and you notice you have an appointment with one of these writers, pick up a “FYWS Tutorial Checklist” at the reception desk in order to help guide your session. As you work with the writer, brainstorm with them, have fun, and be sure to congratulate them on their accomplishment!

The event is open to the entire DePaul community, so stop by if you can! This year the keynote speaker will be Andrea Lunsford. Many in the field consider Ms. Lunsford to be a Composition Studies rockstar, and several of our UCWbL colleagues can attest to her being a truly inspiring speaker. If you recognize the name, but can’t place it, Ms. Lunsford is the editor of the First Year Writing Program’s required text The St Martin’s Handbook. She joins us from Stanford University, where she is the Director of the Program in Writing and Rhetoric.

So, remember to mark you calenders for the First Year Program’s Writing Showcase on Wednesday, May 18, from 6 to 8pm at Cortelyou Commons in Lincoln Park.
