Graduation!! …Wait, NOW WHAT? (Scrawl S10 E08)

Hello Scrawl Nation! This time of year is always bittersweet for the UCWbL –when graduating seniors say their goodbyes to DePaul.  It’s an exciting time, but students may feel anxious about the next steps outside of college and into real life.

We brought on Adi Clerman, the Assistant Director for the University Internship Program from the DePaul Career Center to talk about internships, LinkedIn, and the real world after college.

After an uproarious round of Word of the Day, we got to the heart of post-graduation, which is finding the perfect job.

The Career Center has a number of excellent resources for students, as well as alumni. Did you know that the Career Center’s services are free for DePaul students forever? Advisors are available by appointment to look over resumés, find internships, and prepare for interviews.

Next week, be sure to check out the Career Center’s invaluable event, the “Just In Time Job Fair,” in the Lincoln Park Student Center!

Adi says a good job or internship applicant is one who pays extra attention to detail, especially in jobs dealing with writing. Another good tip is for applicants to demonstrate how they feel passionately about the work they do, or the company they’d like to work for. Adi says this looks better for an applicant than just what’s written on their resumé.

We wrapped up today’s episode with our favorite game, “Can I Graduate?” Adi judged the Scrawl hosts, who each proposed the perfect atypical graduation song. Rima won “Valedictorian” with her best graduation song, “For Good” from Wicked.

Remember to follow the Career Center on twitter for updates about workshops and events as well as on their website for job and internship opportunities!
