Writers Guild Shindig for National Day on Writing!

Greetings all! As some of you may know, the National Day on Writing is rapidly approaching. We’ve got a lot of great things planned. Who’s sponsoring this event? I’m glad you asked! The Writing Group’s Creative Writing Forum is helping bring this lovely event to you. This group is a collaborative effort between the UCWbL’s Writing Groups, the Collaborative for Multi-lingual Writing, our Outreach team, and The Writers Guild, headed by Sarah Hughes.

The Creative Writing Group is a place where creative writing pieces—such as essays, poems, screenplays, or short stories—may be workshopped and discussed by other members of DePaul’s creative writing community. The Group enables writers to not only receive feedback on their own writing, but also to comment on other participants’ pieces. Group members work with an UCWbL peer writing tutor, who facilitates the conversation and also provides feedback. Creative writers in any stage of the writing process are encouraged to participate. The Creative Writing Group meets every Thursday from 4 to 5:30, in the Richardson Library, room 309, and we encourage writers to participate as often as they can.

What’s there to do for National Day on Writing, you ask? Well, we’ve got a few ways for you to participate in this event. Come share your literacy narrative and talk about how you’ve grown as a writer. Maybe you had an experience that changed you as a writer, or a teacher who inspired you. We’ll have cameras set up around the Student Center to record your story and share it with others.

Several of our Creative Writing Group members, former WG leader Justin Staley, and Keith Ecker and Alyson Lyon of Essay Fiesta will be performing their literacy narratives as well. Come listen to their stories and share in their revelations.

That brings me to our guests Essay Fiesta. Essay Fiesta is a charity group that seeks to bring people together for writing and performance. Alyson and Keith will be our emcees for the event, so come out and show them your support.

I bet you’re wondering when and where you can get all this wonderful National Day on Writing goodness, huh? Come stop by the Lincoln Park Student Center room 120A, between 4:00-5:30pm.
