LGBTQA Month Celebration! (Scrawl S10 E3)

Hello Scrawl Nation! This week on Scrawl Radio we celebrated the beginning of LGBTQA Month at DePaul by interviewing Harry Denny, director of the writing center at St. John’s and author of the groundbreaking article “Queering The Writing Center.” Although Harry was not able to be in the studio with us, Scrawler Brandon was able to record an interview with him and play some clips for us on the air!

During the episode, we played clips from the interview with Professor Denny about a wide range of issues including the intersections between discovering identity and being a writer, what it’s like to pursue LGBTQ issues on a Catholic campus, how to approach “queering” a writing center, and issues surrounding LGBT persons as both tutors and writers in the writing center. Our discussion was especially focused around how to approach LGBT issues with an open mind and a real passion for creating a dialogue!

We also did another round of our famous rhetoric segment, this time focusing on the song “Same Love” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert. We looked at how he appealed to his audience and which audience exactly he was addressing.
