Play Fever (Scrawl S12 E05)

Hello Scrawl Nation!

Last week we had another fantastic episode of Scrawl Radio! We had UCWbLer Allie B. on as a guest to talk about the theatre, writing scripts, and some tips for tutoring writers who bring in plays. Allie is also producing a production of Noël Coward’s play Hay Fever the weekend of May 22nd. Information about showings can be found by listening to the podcast!

The show began, as always, with an excellent round of Word of the Day, including a little bit of background about theatre.

Then we interviewed Allie about many aspects of theatre, including writing, producing, and genres. Allie shared her thoughts about not only the process of writing, producing, and performing a play, but also had some excellent tips about how tutors could approach a writer who brings in a play. Check out this clip for Allie’s insightful answers!

Next we played an amazing round of America’s Favorite Game entitled Play Fever! Allie brought in a brief scene from the play Hay Fever and gave Mariah and Brandon the opportunity to perform live on the air. You won’t want to miss this clip!

Finally we finished up with a rousing version of our weekly rhetoric segment! We looked at the most famous playwright in history, William Shakespeare, and the monologue his character Kate delivers in his play The Taming of the Shrew.
