Brendan P and guest host Robert D. welcomed Sophie Raimi, Vice President of the DePaul Congressional Debate Team. With the Presidential election in full-swing and Presidential debates becoming daily talking points, we decided to question how debates work, what preparations are involved, and the rhetorical devices required to carry out a defense of a claim. These topics were analyzed through the example of Congressional debate style, then compared to the Presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
Brendan, Robert, and Sophie discussed the Rhetoric of Pop, which this week was a Rhetoric of Show Tunes: a moment during the show where a top hit on the Billboard Hot 100 is analyzed. This week featured Shawn Mendes’ “Treat You Better”
