Goooood morning Scrawl Nation!
This year we’ve seen some new faces around the UCWbL. They’re not just new UCWbLers. They go by another fierce acronym: EDGE.
The Education and Development Grant for Employability (EDGE) is a super secret grant program offered by DePaul for students who need a little help paying for school, but want to work for it. They’re high qualified students with their eyes on the professional prize and partner with a department or office on campus to learn some valuable job skills.
The UCWbL was fortunate enough to have a whopping seven EDGE students this year, our first year with the program. You can check out the profiles of all our students here at the bottom of the page under “Edgeterns!”
The lovely and talented Gen and Will joined us last week to talk a little bit about the program and their involvement in it.
Meet Gen, she’s a driven ball of energy with a professional flair. When we thought she dressed business casual for the show, she explained that in addition to being a full time student and working with the EDGE program, she also works at a bank.
Will is another EDGE student with a sweet sense of humor and interest in film. He’s still deciding which major to pursue, but his dream is to make an alien sci-fi movie. He was driven to find scholarship opportunities at DePaul, and he and Gen describe how they found the EDGE program.
Will and Gen described their application process to the program and how they got accepted. *Hint hint to future freshman who may be interested!*
Best of all, Will and Gen described why they chose the UCWbL and what they’ve done so far! This spring quarter they will carry out a team project, so stay tuned to see what they do!
